
Maria LoCicero (she/her) is a Michigan native and 3L at the University of Michigan law School.
Outside of journal work, Maria is involved in the Latinx Law Students Association, Student Funded Fellowships, and Mock Trial. Maria enjoys running, making art, and picnics with friends. Post-grad, Maria will be clerking in the District of New Mexico.
Maria serves as MJLS’s Editor-in-Chief.

Rosalia Pembroke is a 3L at the University of Michigan Law School. Outside of journal work, Rosalia is interested in public defense and the criminal legal system. She enjoys spending her free time fishing, canoeing, and spending time outdoors. After graduation, Rosalia will be clerking in the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
Rosalia serves as MJLS’s Managing Editor.

Sarah Portwood (she/her) is a third-year law student at the University of Michigan. In addition to her work on the Michigan Journal of Law and Society, and she also serves as the Notes & Scholarship Editor for the Michigan Journal of Gender and Law.
Outside of journal work, Sarah is a co-chair of OUTreach, a project manager with Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse, and a student attorney with the Civil Rights Litigation Initiative. She loves reading, writing, woodburning, puzzling, and playing games with her friends, and she plans to do public interest work in the Seattle area after graduation.
Sarah serves as MJLS’s Managing Production Editor.

Sophie (“Phie”) Towle (she/her) is a 3L at Michigan Law. In addition to her work for the Michigan Journal of Law and Society, Phie is also the President of the Public Benefits Advocacy Project.
Phie serves as MJLS’s Legal Content Editor.

Tess Hamilton is a PhD student in Sociology and Rackham Merit Fellow specializing in the sociology of law, with a focus on mental health law and policy. Her primary research interest is outpatient civil commitment (often known as “assisted outpatient treatment”) and related coercive mental health interventions.
Tess brings over a decade of experience as a practicing intellectual property attorney and pro bono advocate to her graduate research. Tess received her law degree from Yale Law School, where she participated in the Supreme Court Advocacy and Immigration Legal Services Clinics. Prior to law school, she studied economics and sociology at Harvard University.
Tess serves as MJLS’s Content Editor for Sociology.

AG McGee (they/them) originally hails from Grand Rivers, Kentucky, and is a 2nd year Ph.D. student in the Philosophy Department at UMich. They graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in philosophy and certificates in cognitive science and creative writing in 2022. Once, Paul McCartney told them he liked one of the songs they helped write for a songwriting class!
AG serves as MJLS’s Content Editor for Philosophy.

Isabelle Sullivan

Crystal Tan is a 3L at the University of Michigan Law School. After graduation, she will be working in the corporate practice group at Kirkland & Ellis’ Chicago office. In her free time, she enjoys pilates, boxing, checking out cute cafes, and playing with her cat, Stella.
Associate Editors

Celina (she/her/hers) is from Southeast Michigan and a 2L at the University of Michigan Law School. She is also a Graduate Success Partner with the Office of Academic and Multicultural Initiatives at the University of Michigan. During summer 2024, she worked as a judicial intern for the Hon. Julia Owdziej in the Washtenaw County Circuit Court. For summer 2025, she will work as a Summer Associate at Barnes & Thornburg in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In her spare time, she enjoys baking and hiking.

My name is Cannon Bush. My pronouns are he/him. I am a 2L from Dingle, Idaho. One fun fact about me is that my wife and I recently had our first child (just two days before the start of my 2L year!)

Raised in Nebraska, Ashley Hamilton (she/hers) is a citizen of the Winnebago Tribe in Nebraska and a descendant of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas.
Ashley is a 2L at the University of Michigan Law School (Class of 2026) and holds an A.B. in Sociology with a secondary in Economics, honors, from Harvard University. She is the Co-President of Michigan Law’s Native American Law Students Association (NALSA), Treasurer of National NALSA, and a Native American Alumni of Harvard University Board Member. Ashley is also a Senior Judge for Michigan’s Legal Practice 1L writing course.
In 2023, Ashley was a Sponsors for Educational Opportunities (SEO) Law Fellow, and, in the year prior, she attended the Pre-Law Summer Institute for Natives. Prior to becoming a fellow, Ashley worked at All Native Group (ANG), a subsidiary of Ho-Chunk, Inc. and at the National Congress of American Indians.
Ashley spends her time away from the law school running with her two dogs, Winnie and Roo, traveling, reading fantasy or sci-fi, playing cozy games, going on walks, exploring Ann Arbor, and going to live concerts/events!

Elizabeth Anne Henderson is a third year law student at the University of Michigan

Amelia Wittig (she/her) is a 2L at Michigan Law. She grew up in Saline, MI and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Political Science. Before law school, she volunteered with the Peace Corps in Rwanda and worked as a legal assistant in DC and a server. After law school, she plans on working as a public defender in Tennessee.
