
James Kirwan is a 3L at the University of Michigan Law School. James is spending summer 2021 interning for Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s Senate Judiciary Committee team and spent summer 2020 interning for the National Labor Relations Board’s Contempt, Compliance, and Special Litigation Branch. James is a tea connoisseur who knows way too much about Lyndon Johnson.

Caitlin Kierum is a 3L at the University of Michigan Law School. Caitlin is spending summer 2021 as a Summer Associate for Kirkland & Ellis, LLP and spent summer 2020 interning for a healthcare company and advocating for the rights of individuals who are incarcerated. In her free time, Caitlin enjoys playing classical clarinet and finding good sales on the internet.
Caitlin serves as MJLS’ inaugural Managing Editor and is also a Senior Editor for the Michigan Law Review.

Nathanael Ham is a 3L at the University of Michigan Law School and a recent graduate of the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. Nathanael is spending summer 2021 as a Summer Associate for Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and spent summer 2020 interning for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Nathanael is MJLS’ inaugural Managing Production Editor and also an Articles Editor for the Michigan Journal of International Law.

Steven Van Iwaarden is a 3L at the University of Michigan Law School. Steven is spending summer 2021 as a Summer Associate for Latham & Watkins, LLP and spent summer 2020 clerking for Administrative Judge Thomas T. Harward of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Steven is MJLS’ Inaugural Executive Legal Content Editor and also an Executive Editor with the Michigan Law Review.

Zoe Chanin is a PhD student in the University of Michigan Department of Sociology. She specializes in the sociology of international law and political economy, with a focus on the international investment regime. She also conducts socio-legal research for University Responses to Sexual Assault (URSA). Prior to graduate school, she coordinated the public policy arm of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, a legal think tank specializing in international commercial arbitration. In the words of her closest friends, Zoe is a doting plant mom with far too much enthusiasm for 80s goth rock.

Allie Goodman is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the University of Michigan Department of History. Allie studies urban history and the history of incarceration in the 20th Century United States prior to World War II. Her current research focuses on childhood interactions with institutions and policing in Chicago, and she is particularly interested in the dynamic shifts between rehabilitative and punitive logics. Allie loves to bake in her free time and understands why non-chocolate desserts exist but questions their utility.

Charlotte Boucher is a third-year PhD student in the University of Michigan Department of Political Science. Charlotte is a Teaching Assistant for POLSCI 101: Introduction to Political Theory. Charlotte’s research focuses on the intersection of law and violence, and the ways in which violence is legitimated and legalized against certain bodies and not others. Charlotte is originally from Canada, and while she generally dislikes cliches, she does have very strong feelings about maple syrup (the only kind of syrup).
